Some of the most successful days on the water can come from simplistic “do nothing” bait setups! Bassmaster Elite Series Pro, Patrick Walters takes us through his setups for two popular catch everything baits, the Neko and Wacky rigs!
Neko - Start off with a 5” soft plastic stick bait and slide an o-ring to the middle of the bait, having it sit slightly more towards the head of the bait. Then slide a nail weight into the head of the soft plastic. The grooves in the weight will help keep it secure when you are fishing. The last step is to insert a VMC Neko hook through the bait and under the o-ring, making sure to keep the hook in line with the length of the bait. Patrick often uses a size 1 or 2 hook and goes to a 1/0 size hook for larger baits.
Wacky - Take the weight out and put the hook through the o-ring parallel to the bait!
