The Damiki Rig has become one of the most popular techniques to coincide with the rise in forward-facing sonar technology. In this video, Bassmaster Elite, Bob Downey, goes over how to choose the right jig head and soft plastic for fishing a Damiki Rig. First, you'll want to choose your jig head. Generally, Bob prefers a 1/4 or 3/8 oz head, where the 1/4 is best for calm conditions or shallower water and the 3/8 excels in deeper water or in windier conditions. A few of Bob's favorite jig heads for fishing a Damiki Rig are the All-Terrain Tackle Smallie Smasher, VMC Moon Eye Jig, and Bass Tactics Smeltinator Head, all of which feature a 90-degree line tie, which is important for Damiki rigging. On the business end, you'll want some sort of shad or minnow profile soft plastic. Bob prefers any sort of plastic made with ElaZtech material, which sits more horizontally when fished vertically compared to traditional soft plastics. Two great trailer options, although there are many more on the market, are the Z-Man Scented Jerk ShadZ and the Strike King Z-Too!
