When it comes to cold water bassin', there is perhaps no tool better for the job than a blade bait. These all-metal baits have been around for decades and are proven fish catchers in super cold water temps when fish begin to get more lethargic around their normal wintering holes. When fishing blade baits, such as the Deps Circuit Vib, Omnia Fishing's Jacob Bros uses 10-12lb Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon with a 7'0" or 7'3" Medium power casting rod and either a 6.3:1 or 7.3:1 Daiwa Tatula SV. While many anglers prefer spinning gear for a blade bait, this casting setup allows easy casting and easy fishing of the blade bait as well. When fishing the blade bait, give it simple raises of the rod tip to initiate some vibration and let the bait rest on the bottom with 3-5 second pauses. When the water gets cold, especially in the late fall, it is one of the most effective and fun ways to trigger strikes - the proof's in the pudding!
